  • It is believed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched a fresh investigation into some members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees and the National Working Committee.

Punch Newspapers reports that the BoT and NWC of the opposition party are being investigated over N10bn allegedly disbursed by former President Goodluck Jonathan’s ex-Aide-de-Camp, Col. Ojogbene Adegbe, during the last presidential primary.

The anti-graft agency is said to have began the investigation since Thursday, when the Nigerian Army handed over Adegbe for questioning.

During the party’s primary election in December 2014, the Chairman of the BoT was Chief Tony Anenih, while the party’s National Chairman, who also headed the NWC, was Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.

The EFCC is reported to be particularly focusing on PDP chieftains, including NWC and BoT members, who played prominent roles during the PDP presidential primary.

The report further stated that as at Friday, the operatives of the EFCC were trying to ascertain how Adegbe allegedly got the N10bn he disbursed.

The money was alleged to have been used to bribe the PDP delegates to adopt Jonathan for second term.

An operative of the commission, was quoted to have said: “As of 6pm on Friday, we have not got what we want from the ex-ADC, but based on what he has said so far, we are investigating the PDP’s NWC and BoT members during the period. We are not relying on the ex-ADC alone. We have other ways of investigating.”
